BEFORE YOU ADOPT FROM US REMEMBER...
Adopting a dog is a lifetime commitment. If you aren't prepared to work with your dog through the adjustment period and beyond, please look no further. If you won't keep your dog if you move or as your family grows, please look no further. If you aren't prepared to nurse your dog back to health if he gets ill or if she needs surgery, please look no further.
Rescue dogs have been through so much - dumped in shelters or found roaming the streets. They have been abandoned, neglected, starved and in many cases even physically abused. They need TIME, PATIENCE, UNDERSTANDING and LOVE in order to succeed in their new homes. Sometimes it may take many months for a rescue dog to make the adjustment to your home and family; over a year is not unheard of!
If you aren't 100% committed to making this work with your new dog, then please don't adopt from us. Any adopter of a rescue dog who has been through the adjustment period can tell you its worth it. No dog is perfect....just like no human is perfect. Please don't expect too much too soon from your new dog. We want every adoption to be a successful one - A FOREVER HOME! That's why we are here to answer questions before and after each adoption, but we can't do it without your commitment.
Please DO NOT consider adopting any of our dogs simply because they have a sad story behind them unless you are completely and totally committed to seeing them through their problems and adjustment. Moving from place to place will only add stress to their lives and can cause more problems. Dogs have feelings too, please think of theirs when making the decision to bring one into your home. Our goal is to have this be the last move in their lives, their FOREVER home.
FAQ's...
Frequently Asked Questions about our adoption policies. Please read this before submitting your application!
What is your adoption fee?
Our non-refundable adoption fee is $150.00 (Cash or Money Order) and due upon signing the adoption contract. This fee replaces the funds that we have already spent on the dog you adopt. SPR/NOCAR dogs are fully vaccinated and either are spayed/neutered (unless they are too young) or will be as a part of the adoption process. We pay for a fecal exam, a heartworm test (and treatment, if applicable), and we keep them on monthly heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative, while in our care. We also pay for their boarding and supplies while they are with us. The adoption fee helps defray some of our expenses, so that we can save more dogs.
How do I know if you got my application?
Depending on how your application is delivered to us (in person, mail, email, fax) you should here from us within 48 hours upon receipt of your application. If you have not heard from us by then please email us here to inquire about the status of your application.
What happens once I submit my application?
Once we receive your application, we will review it, perform the necessary reference checks and attempt to arrange for a home visit (when applicable). For the home visit, all members of the family must be present. Please explain to your references that we will need to speak with them before moving forward in the process, and to return our calls as soon as possible.
What if I am NOT approved for fostering and/or adopting?
SPR/NOCAR reserves the right to decline or not accept any application based on the information we receive or are given during the approval process, and up to signing the adoption contract, with no explanation to the applicant. Information received during the approval process is considered confidential. The right to decline an adoption is at the sole discretion of SPR/NOCAR and/or SPR's/NOCAR's representatives. SPR/NOCAR is here to serve the best interests of our dogs and our approval process is set up to do just that.
I just want a dog....why the rigorous approval process?
When we accept a dog into our rescue, we make a commitment to him or her, to care for them, get them healthy again and find them a wonderful, loving home. We want to make sure that our applicants understand the lifetime commitment they are making and that they can provide our dogs a great new life.
Our goal is to place each dog in a home where the dog and new family will complement each other. Dogs are placed with the home that best meets the dog's needs, NOT on a "first come, first served" basis. While we do our best to ensure a fair chance at your dog of choice, ultimately, we are looking out for the best interests of our dogs. We promise however, to help you find the best dog for your home and family!
